In San Bernardino, a historic building has gone up in flames

A dentist's office building in Downtown San Bernardino that was erected in 1940 went up in flames Tuesday morning. After receiving several 9-1-1 calls, San Bernardino County firefighters were called to the fire located on 575 West Fifth Street at about 7:37 a.m.

Crews came swiftly to discover considerable smoke coming from the building's second level. Arriving personnel got to work, putting out the fire and making sure no one was inside the building. Another secondary alarm response was ordered considering the size of the facility and the extent of the fire.

The fire grew larger, threatening the roof, and forcing firemen to assume a defensive stance. In the end, the fire was extinguished in 90 minutes. There were no casualties among the firemen. The building, vacant at the time of the fire was heavily damaged. The cause of the fire is being looked into.
