Should The U.S. Let China Take Taiwan? The Few Options America Has

The Truth Is America Has 0 Options

We are unable to prevent China from conquering Taiwan. Taiwan is 1,716 kilometers distant from Guam. China can effectively attack Taiwan in less than a week if it packs 5 battleships, 2 aircraft carriers, and 2 destroyers with anti-aircraft guns. Japan has already indicated that if China invades Taiwan, it will withdraw, and South Korea has stated a similar stance to a Chinese Taiwan attack.

Japan has also said that if China invades Taiwan, it will not allow American military activities to take place anywhere on Japanese land. As a result, the United States cannot deploy a naval, armed, or airborne military presence anywhere near Japanese territory. Taiwan is still attempting to form an alliance with Japan but has been unsuccessful, as has the South Korean government in reaching an accord.

So what can we do?

America should sever connections with the Taiwanese administration and advise American businesses and residents to leave the island immediately. This is far from ideal, but with no friends on the ground and no territory on which to base our military presence on the Taiwanese island, there isn't much we can do. If the United States decides to send a war fleet to protect the island, we will have to battle the Chinese communist party directly.

Then by the time we send warships into Taiwanese territory, the Chinese communist party will have effectively conquered Taiwan. Our only choice would be to liberate the Taiwanese people, but the Chinese government would undoubtedly dispatch all of its military strength to secure military triumph in the region; China would not be ready to accept such a loss in the global arena.

WWIII?

There is no way for the US administration to prevent a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. In the event of a Chinese invasion in the region, and the US has yet to break ties with the Taiwanese government and issue the necessary warnings, the US government has entered the Chinese-Taiwan War by treaty, and by treaty, we must defend our allies. Now, as previously stated, China would easily capture the region within days, and the US government would have already broken its treaty by not fighting off the invasion, sending an early message to the world. Our regional allies would no longer look up to us. Does this sound familiar? This would have the same effect as the war in Afghanistan.
