Early Invicta career
On October 15, 2016, Zappitella made her competitive debut against Jayme Hinshaw at the KOTC Equalizer. She prevailed in the fight, compiled a 3-0 record with one no-contest, and caught the attention of Invicta Fighting Championships.
Invicta FC 30: Frey vs. Grusander is where she will make her Invicta FC debut against Shino VanHoose. Later, VanHoose backed out of the fight, and Jillian DeCourse took her place.
Zappitella momentarily quit Invicta after her first defeat since she was due to compete against Kanna Asakura at RIZIN 18. By a divided decision, Asakura prevailed.
When Zappitella returned to Invicta, Kelly D'Angelo was supposed to be his opponent at Invicta FC 39: Frey vs. Cummins II. Zappitella won the fight by unanimous decision to end her two-fight losing run.
Invicta Atomweight title reign
The first two rounds were dominated by Cummins, who prevailed in most of the striking encounters and halted Zappitella's takedown attempts.
In the first minute of the third round, Zappitella successfully secured a takedown and applied a Von Flue choke to thwart Cummins' attempt at a guillotine choke.
Invicta FC has never seen a Von Flue choke finish before. On May 21, 2021, Zappitella faced Jéssica Delboni in her maiden title defense at Invicta 44: Rodrguez vs. Torquato.
She prevailed in the fight in a razor-thin split decision. The fight was graded favorably for Delboni by all of the media. At Invicta FC 45, Zappitella will face Jéssica Delboni once more on January 12, 2022.
Podcast review
The world champion was contacted by Jesus Arias, host of The Arias Journal Podcast, about appearing on his program. Alesha Zappitella agreed, and they briefly discussed everything from the show's Invicta championships to her recent travels around the world.
Jesus and Alesha even discussed the cryptocurrency industry, how things have changed so drastically in such a short period of time, and how everything around us may eventually take on a digital form in some manner.
Alesha also discussed her passion for the arts and her desire to support herself via her creative endeavors. We really hope you appreciate Alesha Zappitella's appearance on our show as much as we did.
